Welcome to the GME Program
A message from Larry M. Bush, MD FACP, FIDSA
Designated Institutional Official
Wellington Regional Medical Center
I would like to thank you very much for your interest in our Internal Medicine Residency Graduate Medical Education training program here at Wellington Regional Medical Center (WRMC). Throughout the greater than three decades that WRMC has consistently been engaged in educating physician trainees and medical students, the mission and focus has never changed. That being providing assurance that those who graduate from our program leave here with the knowledge, experience, competence and confidence that will enable them to deliver excellent medical care second to none for every patient who seeks their services.
WRMC is one of the few Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) teaching hospitals in Palm Beach County, the third most populated county in Florida. Traditionally, it has been understood that medical institutions attained the title of an academic teaching center or institute by having qualified, experienced and dedicated medical educators who in addition to administrative tasks spend much of their time teaching, mentoring and engaging in clinical research and ongoing scholarly activities. To satisfactorily fulfill these requirements, it is imperative for the sponsoring institution to make certain that those selected to serve as both full-time and affiliated core and specialty faculty have been educated to do so, as well as granted adequate resources to perform these tasks.
As the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) it has been my role to make certain that this takes place and I pledge to you that I will continue to do so to ensure that we diligently strive to turn these preconceived perceptions and expectations of the entering resident physicians, as well as the lay public surrounding such teaching hospitals, into reality.
I invite you to reach out to either myself, our Program Director Dr. Edlira Maska, or our GME Manager Ms. Mirna Munoz, and encourage you to feel free to contact any of our current or past residents if you have any questions. Our doors are always open if you would like to visit the medical center.
